Travel in Style Pack Smart

Do you find yourself with a suitcase filled to the brim before you even get to your destination? Do you come home having to pay overweight charges because you didn't consider your possible shopping runs while abroad? Or, is it simply just your first time and you have no idea how to pack?  If for whatever reason, you always find yourself with too much, not enough, or all the wrong stuff when traveling, here are a few suggestions on how to be more efficient when packing for a trip.

Prioritize comfort.
If you are going to cities where walking is the norm, forget bringing 5 pairs of heels. Instead, bring one versatile pair for emergency situations and wear comfortable shoes the rest of the time. For those in Manila used to leisurely walking or having their own car, or even taking a cab all the time, the fast paced walking of some cities will force you to have to keep up. Make it easier for yourself by bringing ballet flats, espadrilles, sneakers or comfortable sandals.

Versatility is key.
In order not to have an overflow of mismatched clothing in your suitcase, bring key pieces that can be used for different occasions. For instance, plain black leggings can be worn on the plane, but can also be used when shopping or sightseeing. A white button down shirt can be used for casual museum visits, but can be transformed into something appropriate for dinner if worn with the right shoes and a skirt.

Back to basics. When in doubt, the basics are always a good choice. Choosing between the black maxi dress and the busy floral one? Pick the black and build on the outfit with accessories instead. It will work as a good base for several different looks. Pick denim, black, white and gray as your basic palette, then accessorize with bright colored scarves, jewelry, bags or shoes.

Be appropriate. Are you traveling for work? Don't forget your blazers and office- appropriate skirts and pants. Are you visiting in the winter? Forget see through tops and short shorts and focus on clothes you can layer to keep warm. Figure out the weather situation where you are going and match it with your reason for going in order to edit your travel wardrobe.

Leave space for shopping.
No matter where you are going or what your reasons are for traveling there, more often than not, Filipinos feel the need to buy pasalubong. Keep some space in your suitcase for little gifts to bring back home, or for a few items you'd like to keep for yourself.
